Paris Saint-Germain FC defeated US Quevilly 1-0 to reach the French Cup final on Wednesday and end the fairy-tale run of the amateurs from the fourth tier.
A tight game was decided five minutes into the second half when Turkey striker Mevlüt Erdinç headed in a left-wing cross from Sylvain Armand which took a deflection off Ludovic Giuly. Quevilly, who claimed the scalp of Ligue 1 clubs Stade Rennais FC and US Boulogne in previous rounds, were centimetres from replying when Anthony Laup hit the post in the dying minutes.
Quevilly coach Régis Brouard, whose side became the third fourth division club to reach the last four, said: "We lost our concentration for five minutes early in the second half, and they took advantage. They deserve to go through as they were more powerful than us."
Opposite number Antoine Kombouaré added: "For me, our opponents have reached a professional level. All credit to them, they made things very tough for us." PSG will tackle AS Monaco FC in the Stade de France final on 1 May, with a UEFA Europa League berth up for grabs for the winners.
