Arsenal LFC and Glasgow City LFC were victorious on the day as the UEFA Women's Champions League round of 32 concluded. The teams will meet in a British derby next month following home wins on Thursday, Arsenal having recorded theirs in emphatic fashion. Second-leg draws were sufficient for FC Rossiyanka and Konak Belediyesi to join them in the last 16.
Glasgow City LFC 3-1 R. Standard de Liège (agg: 5-3)
Glasgow set up a tie with Arsenal after a comfortable victory. The Scottish club were favourites to progress after a 2-2 draw in Belgium last week and they were too strong for Standard at Petershill Park, with the excellent Jessica Fishlock pulling the strings.
City took the lead in the 15th minute when Suzanne Malone produced a neat finish, before Denise O'Sullivan scored a brilliant goal on the half-hour mark when she volleyed in Sarah Crilly's cross from the right. Crilly increased the lead in the 56th minute with a fine strike from the edge of the penalty box to end the tie as a contest. Standard's Tessa Wullaert grabbed a consolation in added time.
Arsenal LFC 11-1 WFC SSHVSM Kairat (agg: 18-2)
Arsenal, who had a 7-1 lead to defend, dominated the Kazakh champions for the biggest winning margin of their 75 European fixtures. Danielle Carter headed in a 14th-minute Kim Little corner and Ellen White added another with a low finish. Little then converted a penalty for her 30th UEFA women's club competition goal, the tenth player to achieve that feat, and Jordan Nobbs made it four at the interval.
Another spot-kick was dispatched by Little in the 51st minute, before Carter nodded in a White cross. Carter had a hat-trick after being slipped through by Little, who soon set the same player up for her fourth goal. Carter was then substituted and Little promptly completed her own treble, while another Scot, substitute Caroline Weir, got the goal of the game with a dipping shot from 25 metres. Gemma Davison's solo run set Nobbs up for the 11th, though at the death Makhliyo Sarikova chipped Emma Byrne for a consolation.
RTP Unia Racibórz 0-0 Konak Belediyesi (agg: 1-2)
Konak, the first Turkish side to reach this stage, earned a round of 16 tie with Austria's SV Neulengbach after a strong defensive performance in Poland. Unia were allowed little space as Konak held on to what they had, only twice seriously threatened.
FC Rossiyanka 1-1 ŽFK Spartak Subotica (agg: 5-3)
Serbia's Spartak knew they needed to score at least three after losing 4-2 at home and Milena Nikolić struck quickly to give them hope. José Nahi, Claudine Meffometou Tcheno and Tia N'Réhy ensured the visitors kept up the pressure, but they could not reduce their aggregate deficit further and with three minutes left Rossiyanka substitute Oksana Yakovishyn made it 1-1 after Olga Petrova's fine pass. The Russian side now play ASD Torres Calcio of Italy.
