Germany have continued their record of reaching every UEFA European Women's Under-17 Championship finals by completing a perfect second qualifying round campaign in Group 4 that culminated in a 3-0 triumph against tournament holders Spain in Madrid.
Between them, the two nations have won all four previous editions, Germany the first two and Spain the last couple, but only one could qualify. Sara Däbritz put Germany, needing victory, ahead on nine minutes with a superb solo effort and the captain converted a penalty towards the end before substitute Manjou Wilde sealed a 3-0 win in added time. Germany now travel to Nyon's Colovray Stadium for a 26 June semi-final against the winners of Group 3, decided by 1 May.
Spain opened with a 7-2 defeat of Serbia, but although they scored on three minutes through Andrea Sánchez they were soon behind as Tijana Djordjević struck twice. However, Sonia Fraile turned the game again with two goals late in the first half and Andrea Esteban scored on 43 and 44 minutes prior to Maitane López and substitute Judith Fernández finding the target. Earlier, two Laura Leluschko goals had given Germany a 2-0 victory against the Czech Republic.
Two days later, Germany overcame Serbia 4-0, Däbritz converting a 23rd-minute penalty and also completing the scoring after Wilde and substitute Jana Spengler had added to the lead. Spain maintained their goal difference advantage, Esteban's efforts on 53 and 65 minutes – after she had come off the bench – seeing off the Czech Republic, who lost Kristýna Napoleaová to a late red card and had survived an early penalty put against the post by Núria Mendoza, but it was to prove in vain. With both teams out, the Czech Republic held Serbia 2-2 on Sunday for third place.
